Comber Rec 3
Drumaness Mills 4
DRUMANESS Mills defied the inclement weather conditions and a high
flying Comber side to pick up their fourth consecutive league win
and on this sort of display it will not be long before they are well
clear of the Premier Section relegation zone.
The Mills started brightly and with 14 minutes gone the Comber
goalkeeper failed to hold a shot from Gavin McEvoy and Gary Murdock
was on hand to stab the ball into an empty net.
However, it didn't take Comber long to equalise and two minutes
later it was 1-1 when a free kick was headed home by the experienced
Jim McCloskey.
Drumaness continued to pose problems for Comber and with 30 minutes
gone a Rogan free kick was well saved by the home goalkeeper.
Comber were also creating chances and just before the break they hit
the crossbar from a free on the half-way line.
The visitors were dealt a severe blow 23 minutes into the second
half when Stevie Deegan was harshly red carded for an alleged use of
the elbow, but the Mills refused to throw in the towel.
With 70 minutes gone a Rogan free kick crashed into the Comber wall.
The Comber defence were slow in clearing the loose ball and McEvoy
touched it back into Rogan's path and he smashed it to the back of
the net.
With 74 minutes gone Chris Teggart broke down the wing and crossed
for McEvoy. The Mills playmaker cushioned a pass into Murdock, but
his strike was parried out by the Comber custodian and Paul Walsh
had the simple task of stabbing Drumaness into a 3-1 lead.
Two minutes later Teggart cheekily lobbed the Comber goalkeeper when
he spotted him off his line to put the Mills well clear.
However, Drumaness took their foot off the gas and McCloskey made it
4-2 with 10 minutes remaining. The home side then made it 4-3 in the
86th minute, but the Mills held on for an outstanding win.
