Dunmurry Rec 0
Drumaness Mills 1
DRUMANESS won three more valuable points in their drive to get away
from the bottom of the Amateur League's Premier Section.
A penalty by Stephen Deegan in the 35th minute did the trick.
Drumaness could have rued the many chances they spurned. Gary
Murdock made a great run down the right, his cross fell to new
signing Gerard Gelston, but he headed over the bar from close range.
Play was mainly in the middle of the park with neither sets of
forwards able to go forward. One such move saw Gavin McEvoy rushing
clear of the Dunmurry defence and his cross was met by Gary Murdock,
who shot straight at the Dunmurry goal minder.
Dunmurry broke quickly upfield and Watson saved well from their
number nine. The Drumaness goal in the 35th minute began with a
lovely through ball from Paul Walsh to Chris Taggart, who beat the
goalkeeper. Taggart's shot was handled by a Dunmurry defender and
Stephen Deegan scored from the penalty spot.
Drumaness were a little unlucky in the 43rd minute when Gavin McEvoy
put Chris Taggart through on goal. He crossed to Gary Murdock whose
shot hit the post and was cleared to safety.
Dunmurry should have scored a minute before the break when their
centre forward was well placed, but he shot over the bar.
Drumaness did most of the attacking after half time and only good
goalkeeping kept the score down.
Gavin McEvoy broke into the Dunmurry penalty area, only to see his
shot deflected for a corner. Aiden Kelly made a good run from deep
in his own half and his cross was headed wide by Gary Murdock.
Gavin McEvoy had a shot well saved by the goalkeeper and Philip
Rogan struck a post when he met a corner from Stephen Deegan on the
volley.
Drumaness were almost caught out in the 90th minute when a rare
breakaway by Dunmurry ended with Deegan having to head off the line
with the Mills keeper, Michael Watson, well beaten.
