Drumaness Mills 2
Malachians 1
DRUMANESS Mills picked up a much needed league win when they beat
Malachians at Meadowvale.
Manager Donal Bell shuffled his pack again and started with Mark
Feenan, Gavin McEvoy and Philip Rogan in advanced attacking
positions with Paul Walsh starting in midfield alongside the Deegan
brothers, Chris and Stevie.
The Mills started brightly and with 10 minutes gone Feenan sliced
his way through the Malachians defence to get into the box, but he
was unable to get a shot in when he was quickly closed down.
With 20 minutes gone a free kick from Chris Deegan was headed back
into the path of Feenan, but he shot wide. McEvoy then created an
opening for the overlapping Kyle Rogan, but he also shot wide.
Drumaness didn't have long to wait for the breakthrough and a minute
later Feenan, who was a constant thorn in Malachians' side all
afternoon, worked his way into the box and lobbed the ball into the
corner of the net.
The Mills should have been 2-0 up three minutes later when they were
awarded a penalty after Feenan had been fouled, but Philip Rogan had
his spot-kick saved.
With 30 minutes gone Feenan timed his run to perfection to get on
the end of a Chris Deegan free, but he headed the ball straight at
the visiting goalkeeper.
Feenan continued to torture the Malachians defence and with 40
minutes gone he was brought down in the box, but this time the
referee waved away Drumaness' appeals for a penalty.
In a rare Malachians attack their number 9 brought out the best in
goalkeeper Michael Watson when he tried his luck from the edge of
the box.
The Malachians striker was rewarded for his endeavours five minutes
after the break when he was allowed to round Watson and tuck in the
equaliser.
Drumaness battled back well and McEvoy and Feenan both went close to
restoring their lead with good efforts.
The game seemed to heading for a draw until Stevie Deegan carved out
an opening in the 80th minute for C. Teggart and he drilled in a
beauty to put the Mills back in front.
With five minutes of the game remaining Feenan almost made it 3-1
after linking up well with Teggart, but he shot wide.
