Islandmagee 6
Drumaness Mills 1
DRUMANESS Mills are spiralling back down into the Premier Section
relegation zone and must start winning games quickly.
Donal Bell's side have five games left to play and are precariously
placed on 20 points with four of the five teams beneath them in the
table all able to overtake them should they win their games in hand.
The Mills, who again were far from being at full strength, started
well enough and with 15 minutes gone Neil Walsh had the ball in the
net, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
Ten minutes later Stevie Deegan shot narrowly wide from the edge of
the box before Islandmagee took the lead when they number 10 broke
into the box and drilled the ball past Mickey Watson.
Drumaness responded positively and with 30 minutes gone the
Islandmagee goalkeeper did well to tip a shot from Kyle Rogan over
the bar.
Disaster then struck Drumaness when their defence shot themselves in
the foot again and a mistake between Paddy McDonald and Aidy Kelly
allowed Islandmagee to make it 2-0 in the 30th minute.
The Mills refused to lie down and with 40 minutes gone Deegan played
Walsh Neil in behind the Islandmagee defence, but his effort was
well saved by the home keeper.
Three minutes later Deegan again carved open the Islandmagee defence
to release John Connolly, but he failed to score from eight yards
out.
Drumaness continued to make a game of it after the break and with 65
minutes gone Paul Walsh put Neil Walsh clean through on goal, but
his shot was well saved.
The Mills were finally rewarded for their enterprise when Rogan was
brought down in the box and Deegan converted from the spot to make
it 2-1.
Donal Bell's side sensed that they could get something from this
game, but their challenge all went pear shaped after 70 minutes when
Islandmagee scored their third goal from an offside position.
Deegan and Burns protested to the referee, but all they got for
their troubles was red cards each.
Islandmagee finished the game on top against nine men and scored
another three times before the final whistle.
